DStv Signal Problems on Certain Channels
Why some channels work while others don't - and how to fix it
Having no signal on certain DStv channels is one of the most common problems that DStv subscribers experience. This error is caused by either poor signal strength or quality that is below 50%.
Generally, your decoder will display a "DStv no signal error" on channels that require a strong signal. Since your satellite dish is not completely out of alignment, channels that require low signal strength will be playing perfectly.
In this post, I will explain the reason why your decoder is having signal problems on certain channels. I will also show you what you can do to restore the signal back on all DStv channels.
What Causes Certain Channels Not to Work on DStv?

When signal drops below 50%, some channels stop working
Poor signal strength or quality is the main reason why some DStv channels are not working on your decoder. In most cases, the culprit is a satellite dish that is slightly out of alignment. Remember, an LNB that is out of alignment can also cause this problem.

High signal requirement
If your signal strength or quality is below 50% then you are more likely to experience this error. Your DStv signal consists of horizontal and vertical channels. Additionally, some channels do not require a strong signal strength to play. These are the channels that play even when your signal strength and quality is low.
On the contrary, other channels need a very strong signal strength and quality. So, when the signal strength goes below 50% your decoder will start displaying signal problems on these premium channels.
Extra View Diagnosis: If you have a DStv Extra View setup, check if all decoders experience the same problem. If they do, it confirms the issue is with your satellite signal rather than an individual decoder.
What to Do When Some DStv Channels Are Not Working
You only need to improve your DStv signal strength and quality to solve this problem. Follow these steps:
Check the DStv Signal Strength and Quality
You can do this by pressing the "Help" button on your remote control and choosing "General Information". You can then select "Information Central" to see the values of strength and quality.
Navigate to signal information menu
If the values are below 50% then you have a signal problem that needs to be addressed.
Check the Condition of F-Connectors
Faulty connectors reduce DStv signal strength and quality. Inspect all F-connectors on your signal cables for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

Check for damage or corrosion on connectors
Replace any damaged connectors to ensure optimal signal transmission.
Check for Poor Cable Joints
Inspect all connections along your DStv signal cable route. Look for joints that are not properly connected, damaged cables, or connections that have become loose over time.
Check the Alignment of the LNB
The LNB (Low-Noise Block Downconverter) must be properly aligned. It should be positioned at the correct angle relative to the satellite dish and not facing downward.
LNB should be properly aligned with the dish
Align Your Satellite Dish Properly
For best results, use a satellite digital meter to precisely align your satellite dish. Even a slight misalignment can cause signal problems on certain channels.
Check for Obstructions
Ensure your satellite dish has a clear line of sight to the satellite. Look for obstructions like growing trees, new buildings, or other objects that might be blocking the signal path.

Safety First: If your satellite dish is in a high or difficult-to-reach location, consider hiring a professional to avoid injury.
When to Call a Professional
If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing signal problems on certain channels, it might be time to call in a professional DStv installer. They have the proper equipment and expertise to diagnose and fix complex signal issues.
